Biography: LTC (Ret) David A. Rose
LTC (Ret) David A. Rose was born February 18, 1946, in Elyria, OH. In 1964, he graduated from Wellington High School and entered The Ohio State University and the Army ROTC. He pledged Pershing Rifles Company A-1 and served as a member of the Exhibition and 22-5 Drill Teams, the Pershing Rifles First Regimental Headquarters S4, and Regimental Commander. He was designated a Distinguished Military Student, was awarded a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant of Armor in the USAR, and ordered to Active Duty in April 1969. Upon completion of six years on Active Duty, he returned to The Ohio State University and graduated in 1978 with a BS in Transportation and Logistics. He later earned an MS of Systems Management (Logistics Option) degree from the University of Southern California.
LTC Rose’s military career spanned six years on active duty and twenty-one years in the Army Reserve. It included an overseas tour in the Federal Republic of Germany. His assignments included service as a Support Platoon Leader, Tank Platoon Leader, Combat Support Company Commander and Logistics Officer in an armor battalion in Germany, Operations Officer of a training battalion and a personnel control facility at Ft Knox. His reserve duties included as platoon leader in a psychological operations company, S4 of a training battalion, target intel officer in a MI detachment, Rear Area Operations Center Commander, Army Reserve Command G4, and finally as a Command and General Staff College instructor.
His military education included the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced courses, and the US Army Command and General Staff College. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Humanitarian Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass; Overseas Service Ribbon; and the Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon.
After leaving active duty in 1975, LTC Rose was employed as a Department of the Army Civilian where he worked for 33 years as a Quality Assurance Specialist, Supply and Transportation Specialist culminating as a Logistics Management Officer in Ohio, Illinois, Germany and Maryland. His last assignment was as the Director of Logistics of Fort Meade, Maryland. His awards included the Dept of Army Superior Civilian Service Award; DA Commander’s Awards for Civilian Service; USAREUR & 7th Army CG’s Annual Incentive Award for Outstanding Contributions to the EEO program; USAREUR & 7th Army Scroll of Appreciation for FY98 Army Communities of Excellence Program; US Army Quartermaster Center and School Recognition Certificate for Outstanding Contribution to the US Army Food Service Program.
After retirement from government Civil Service in 2008, Dave Rose served as the County Veteran Service Officer of Harrison County, Ohio until retirement from that position in December 2017. In 2021 he was appointed as a member of the County Veterans Service Board and elected President of the Board in 2025.
He is very active in his community. He is member and Chairperson of the Scio United Methodist Church Trustees; Secretary of the Scio Dining Fork Ruritans; Past President/Current Secretary/Treasurer of the Custer Memorial Association; Vice President/Secretary of the Harrison County Historical Society and Past President of The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Carroll and Harrison Counties. He was recognized as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2011 and 2024 by the Scio Dining Fork Ruritans. He was recognized by the Steubenville Herald-Star newspaper as a Community Star in 2016.
Him and his wife Linda have a daughter, son, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
