Biography: Major General Walter M. Duzzny
Major General Walter M. Duzzny is a veteran of over 35 years of service. He is a native of Ohio and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1989 after graduating from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He also holds a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
Major General Duzzny’s previous General Officer assignments include Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Materiel Command; Commanding General, 78th Training Division; He served at the Pentagon as the U.S. Northern Command’s senior representative to the Office of the Secretary of Defense; and as Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army).
He deployed as a Rifle Platoon Leader in C Co, 3-502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during Operation DESERT SHIELD and Operation DESERT STORM. Major General Duzzny also deployed twice with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force, Afghanistan during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM as a J5 Planner and Chief of Staff. He also served a tour on the DMZ in South Korea.
Other assignments and commands are: Ranger Platoon Leader and Battalion Training Officer, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Commander, B Co, 1-5th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division; Battalion commander, 1-148th Infantry; He also served as an Exercise Plans Officer at U.S. Special Operations Command; and Brigade commander, 1st Brigade, ATD, 75th TC.
His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf, and Bronze Star Medal. He also earned the Combat Infantry Badge with Star, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge and Air Assault Badge.
