What is Campus Campaign?

Campus Campaign is an annual fundraising effort at Ohio State. It gives faculty, staff and retirees a chance to support the people, programs and specific funds near and dear to their hearts.  Since 1985, thousands have given back to Ohio State through this campaign. In 1998, Campus Campaign reached a milestone when total giving reached $50 million. The total funds raised have since surpassed the $185 million mark. Faculty and staff gifts throughout the year count toward participation in this annual campaign.

How is Campus Campaign different from Bucks for Charity?

Campus Campaign contributions are used internally for Ohio State’s individual programs, projects and endowments. Campus Campaign donors choose where they want their gifts to be used according to their interest areas within the university. One hundred percent of each gift goes to the chosen fund(s). There are thousands of funds within Ohio State ranging from patient assistance to employee education, research, scholarships and program support. Gifts to Pelotonia also count toward participation in Campus Campaign.

Bucks for Charity, Ohio State’s participation in the United Way’s Charitable Drive, and other fundraising efforts focus externally on community organizations and charities in the city and surrounding counties. A percentage of these gifts goes toward administration of the funds. These initiatives are not related to the annual Campus Campaign and do NOT count toward participation in that effort.

Why is faculty, staff, emeritus, and retiree giving so important to Ohio State?

Only a fraction of the cost of attending OSU or receiving patient care is covered by state funding. Much of the remainder is funded by gifts of all sizes from individual, corporations, foundations, grants with tuition and patient fees completing the picture.

When will faculty and staff be asked to make a gift?

The active phase of Campus Campaign is from March 22 through April 30. However, Campus Campaign is a year-round effort and gifts may be given at any time.

May I designate my gifts to a particular area of the university?

Yes! You may choose from more than 9,000 funds. These may be funds within your own unit or funds related to scholarships, patient care, regional campuses, libraries, WOSU, diversity programs, research, childcare, wetlands, athletics, or outreach, to name a few.

How do I search for funds?

Current faculty and staff can search for a fund by logging into the Campus Campaign online giving site at

Do Pelotonia gifts count toward Campus Campaign participation?

Pelotonia gifts made by Ohio State faculty, staff, and retirees—and received by the university from July 1 - thru April 15 will count toward Campus Campaign Celebration participation figures.

How much of my gift will actually go to the fund(s) I select?

100 percent!

Not everyone can afford to make a large contribution. What difference could a small gift make?

Every gift is important. Whatever amount, your gift shows that you believe in the fund you have chosen to support. There are many funds that receive a large number of “small” gifts.

While all it takes to participate is $1, we encourage you to consider giving by payroll deduction. A gift of $5 per pay to the fund of your choice shows your commitment to the success of the program, research, patient care initiative, or scholarship you choose to support.

How do I make my gift?

I am a current faculty or staff member:

  • Payroll deduction: Sign up today by making your gift online and choosing the payroll deduction option ($1/pay per fund), or include deduction information on your gift form. Deductions are ongoing gifts through per pay installments (12 times per year for those paid monthly and 26 times per year for those paid biweekly) and continue until Gift Processing or the Campus Campaign office is notified otherwise.
  • One-time gift: make your gift today online or via cash or check*.

I am an emeritus faculty or retiree:

  • Make your gift online or by cash or check*.

I am an OSU Physicians, Inc. staff member:

  • Make your gift online by credit card, or use a paper gift form. Gifts also can be made by cash or check*.

*Cash – If possible, drop off in person at 1480 West Lane Avenue. Please do not send cash through the mail, to ensure your gift is secure.

If I am not making any changes to my deduction or making an additional gift at this time, do I need to send in my gift form or go online?

If you are continuing existing deductions as they are and making no other gifts/pledges at this time, you DO NOT need to do anything, your deduction will automatically roll over for the next fiscal year. 

How can I find out what I gave to last year?

Current faculty and staff – View a list of your current payroll deductions and previous year’s gifts by logging into the Campus Campaign giving site. Note: Pelotonia gifts are not listed on the website.

What do I do if I want to search for funds but am not ready to make a gift?

Visit the Campus Campaign giving site, and search all funds using the "Search" feature or the "Select an area:" menu. Search the database of more than 9,000 funds, and click "Add payroll" or "Add one-time" when you find the fund(s) you wish to support.

Why aren't funds from my area available on the Campus Campaign online giving form?

If you do not find the fund you are looking for, please contact the Campus Campaign office at or Gift Processing at or 614-292-2141 for assistance.

How do I get a gift form?

We encourage you to make your gift online.

If you prefer a paper form, you may print a blank form off the Campus Campaign website or contact your Ambassador for assistance.

How do I submit my gift form?

If you choose not to submit your gift online, you may send your form to the following address, using campus mail OR USPS.

You may use the return envelope you received in your donor packet to send the gift form through campus mail by crossing out the city, state, and zip and writing ‘Campus Mail’ on the envelope. You may also use a standard campus mail envelope with your sealed return envelope enclosed inside.

GIFT FORM - Be sure to sign your gift form to confirm your gift intent – new gift/deduction, change in amount or designation, or cancellation.

If you are making no changes to your payroll deduction giving and are not making a cash, check or credit card gift you DO NOT need to send in your form.

To ensure your gift is secure and credited properly, please do not send cash through campus mail or the U.S. Postal Service.

What do I need to know about payroll deduction?

Your gift will be automatically deducted from your pay each pay period beginning July, and continue until further notice. You may change your gift amount or designation at any time online by visiting the Campus Campaign website and clicking on the Give Now button or by emailing the Campus Campaign office ( Deductions are a minimum of $1 per pay period per fund and are collected 12 times per year for those paid on a monthly basis and 26 times per year for those paid on a biweekly basis. One-time payroll deductions cannot be processed.

Changes made to payroll deductions between July 1 and February 12 will take effect the next possible pay period. Changes made to payroll deductions between February 22 and June 30 will take effect the first pay period of the fiscal year (July).

Will my gift through Campus Campaign qualify me for President’s Club?

President’s Club is The Ohio State University’s largest and most prestigious leadership annual giving recognition program. Since 1963, President’s Club has recognized the most loyal and generous donors to the university. These donors offer their philanthropic and leadership support and share a continuing commitment to this great institution.

Annual recognition is extended to individuals who make non-athletic qualifying gifts of $3,000 or more during the calendar year. For gifts of payroll deduction, recognition is achieved with a monthly contribution of $250 for 12 months (January-December for renewing donors or July-June for new donors). A combination of payroll gifts and cash may also be contributed.

What is the Corporate Matching Gift Program?

Employees whose spouses work for companies that offer a matching gift program have an opportunity to double or even triple their gifts. The Corporate Matching Gift Program is a service provided by nearly 1,000 companies that will match contributions from their employees to institutions of higher education. A list of participating companies is available through the The Ohio State University Foundation’s online database.

The online database contains forms for some of the participating companies. In some circumstances, the donor’s spouse will need to contact the human resources department of his or her employer to obtain the appropriate matching gift form.
