A Message from John J. Warner, MD, chief executive officer of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and executive vice president at Ohio State
Last month, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center officially opened the doors of our new, state-of-the-art University Hospital.
That milestone was only possible thanks to the generosity of our Buckeye community, including many President’s Club donors like you.
Our new University Hospital was designed to match the caliber of expertise provided at Ohio State and to expand our commitment to deliver world-class care, advance innovative treatment breakthroughs and provide outstanding clinical education – allowing us to better serve our patients now and into the future.
Those patients include people from all 88 Ohio counties (along with all 50 U.S. states and countries around the world). And serving our entire state is an important way we’re working to advance Ohio State’s land-grant mission.
Together, we’re helping to drive excellence in academics, research and clinical care at Ohio State — and to be the best place to work and learn. I’m grateful for generous donors like you who help us bring this vision to life.
Thank you, again, for your partnership as we celebrate our new opportunities for greater collaboration, innovation and transformation that will impact the health and well-being of all Ohioans.
John J. Warner, MD
CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center

Student Spotlight: Varshita Chirumamilla, MD Candidate 2027
Varshita — a Powell, Ohio native and Ohio State alumna — is currently between her third and fourth years of medical school while completing a dedicated research year in dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her work spans pediatric, adult and global health dermatology, reflecting her commitment to advancing skin health across diverse communities.
A 2022 graduate of Ohio State’s Biomedical Science program—with Honors Research Distinction and minors in Medical Humanities and Medical Pharmacology—Varshita plans to pursue a dermatology residency or a combined medicine/dermatology program after earning her MD in 2027. She hopes to return to the Midwest to practice community-based general dermatology.
As a Dean’s Scholar, Varshita shares that the scholarship has been “deeply meaningful,” allowing her to graduate debt‑free and join a cohort focused on leadership development, scholarly growth, and service. She credits dermatologist and program director Dr. Brittany Dulmage as an especially influential mentor.
Ohio State has been a defining part of her academic journey. She chose the university for both undergraduate and medical school because of its breadth of opportunities, collaborative culture and strong academic environment. During medical school, she quickly became involved — founding the Addiction Medicine Interest Group and engaging in anatomy education, service initiatives and dermatology research.
Varshita’s dedication to patient care, leadership and lifelong learning continues to shape her path toward a future in dermatology.

On March 17, the President’s Club Presents virtual series welcomed Dr. Douglas Scharre — director of the Division of Cognitive Neurology, director of The Ohio State University Center for Cognitive and Memory Disorders, and professor of clinical neurology and psychiatry. Dr. Scharre offered valuable insights into how to distinguish normal aging from early signs of cognitive decline and dementia. He also highlighted recent advancements and ongoing research at The Ohio State University.
