Brutus’ Summer Reading Challenge for kids
Monday, June 5 - Sunday, August 13, 2023
Encourage your family to read together this summer!
Our summer reading challenge is back by popular demand!
Kids will receive an official Brutus’ Summer Reading Challenge tracker. Add a sticker after every reading session, and complete fun, reading-related challenges throughout the summer! At the end of the summer, let us know that you’ve reached your goal and we’ll send your child a prize!
This program is designed for kids in Pre-K to 8th grade. Know an older child who wants to participate? Interested in reading more yourself? Check out our Summer Reading Bingo Challenge!

Check out our frequently asked questions below to learn more!
How does the challenge work?
After the registration period has ended, kids will receive an exclusive tracker to log their reading. This year, kids will help fill Ohio Stadium! After each reading session, they should add a sticker (a section of “fans”) to their stadium tracker. They can also earn additional stickers for completing fun, reading-related challenges throughout the summer.
When does the reading challenge start and end?
The reading challenge starts on June 5 and ends on August 13, 2023.
Who can participate?
Anyone (alumni, faculty, staff, donors and fans) can sign up children for this program. However, registration is limited — please sign up early!
What is the prize? When will we receive it?
All kids who meet their goals will receive an autographed photo of Brutus. All prizes will be mailed in late August, regardless of when the goal was met.
What if I don’t live with the child I’m registering?
No problem! When registering, you will have the option to request materials and prizes to be sent to a different address.
Can I register a group?
Contact us by email for more information.
What is the age group for this program?
We have designed this program (themes, prizes, etc.) for kids in Pre-K to 8th grade. However, you know your child best. If you think this program will help instill a love of reading in other children of other ages, we would love for them to participate, too! Children with a high school reading level or above may enjoy participating in our Summer Reading Bingo Challenge.
How much should my child read?
Participants should work with an adult in their life to determine the appropriate reading goal. We suggest making it a goal to read 20 minutes per day, at least five times per week. This equates to 45 reading “sessions” throughout the summer. However, this can be adjusted based on age, reading level, and attention span. If you are unsure of what reading goal to select, we recommend consulting with the child’s educator.
How do I submit my child’s progress?
Participants will receive a link to electronically submit their progress at the completion of the program.
How can I connect with other participants?
We encourage you to join our Facebook page to connect with other participants and share book recommendations and tips! We’ll also post reminders about submitting your progress.
Do you have a reading challenge for teens and adults?
Yes! Please check out the Summer Reading Bingo Challenge for teens and adults.
When can I join?
Registration for this reading challenge will end on Friday, May 5, 2023 or until sold out.
How has this program improved from previous years?
This year, we have limited registration. To streamline the process, we are only offering one version for children, but the goal can still be customized to fit your family’s needs. We will offer one prize at the end of the summer, and we have carefully selected vendors who will be able to help fulfill our supply needs.
This program has sold out and registration is now closed.
