Faith Sawyer
Having grown up near Columbus in a Buckeye family, Faith always considered Ohio State for college.
H
OMETOWN: Reynoldsburg, Ohio
CAMPUS: Columbus
MAJOR: Psychology
YEAR: 4th-year transfer student from Columbus State
ACTIVITIES: Working 20-24 hours a week as a youth service specialist for the Columbus Metropolitan Libraries, where she engages kids by mentoring and teaching them to read, write, learn social cues, etc.
Unfortunately, Faith’s mom got sick right before Faith applied, so half of her family’s income supported her disability care. Faith then attended Columbus State Community College to get her associate degree, which helped build a more affordable bridge to Ohio State this year to earn her bachelor’s degree. She loves that Ohio State has incredible school spirit, numerous programs and the opportunity to build a community and network with people from all backgrounds. She always had a goal to be educated and continue to grow and change, so she says that scholarships and grants make her want to work harder. She champions Ohio State to her friends because of the affordability and is grateful to donors because she believes that “benevolence is fortitude in life.”
Faith looks forward to doing a psychology internship in her time here and is considering double majoring in social work so she can obtain a counseling/therapy license. Once she graduates, she would like to eventually come back to Ohio State for her master’s degree. She loves the psychology field and would love to serve as a counselor or therapist, working specifically with youth, elders, inner-city/urban populations and/or people with disabilities.
“Thank you for the philanthropy to facilitate the learning process for us. When donors give, even the smallest number can change someone’s life.”
