Starlab – The Future of Commercial Spaceflight Research and Innovation
Our presentation featured Dr. John Horack, Neil Armstrong Chair in Aerospace Policy, and Ms. Cassidy Brozovich, a graduate student pursuing her PhD in biological engineering through Ohio State’s partnership with Starlab Space. They discussed Ohio State’s role in Starlab, a privately-owned and commercially-operated space station designed for research and exploration in the post-International Space Station (ISS) era.
Because NASA will retire the ISS in 2030 — after nearly three decades of research and continuous U.S. human presence in low-Earth orbit — it is partnering with the private sector to develop ISS successors. In the case of Starlab, Ohio State serves as the university leader in a partnership that includes Voyager Technologies, Airbus, Mitsubishi Corporation, Hilton Hotels and more.
In this presentation, Dr. Horack and Ms. Brozovich described Ohio State’s role, the work done to date, the engagement of students and faculty, and exciting “coming attractions” for Ohio leadership in the future of low-Earth orbit research and exploration.
