Josiah Scott

My name is Josiah J. Scott and I am an incoming junior at The Ohio State University from Cincinnati, OH. I am a health science major awaiting acceptance into the nursing program.

I wanted to take the time to express my gratitude to the Buckeye community. Your commitment to providing scholarship support has helped my family and me more than you could ever know — especially when the pandemic was at its peak, given that my parents are entrepreneurs and our business was hit very hard. I was able to focus on maintaining my grades and being a student rather than having to take on multiple jobs just to pay for school.

Initially, adapting to college was a rough wake-up call and my grades reflected that through the first semester. I was struggling to study for and pass exams, and it was very discouraging. Once the pandemic took full effect and we were all sent home, I was able to sit back and carefully consider what I wanted to do and what kind of student I wanted to be. Having scholarship support gave me time to do this.

This self-reflection is what led me to pursue a nursing career and resulted in a major increase in my grade point average. I went from being a sub-2.5 student to being on the Dean’s list and jumping to a 3.2 cumulative GPA. I would have never been able to do this without a scholarship. Instead of finding my true passion and becoming a better student, I would have needed to get a full-time job to help pay for my tuition.
